If you head to the Overwatch subreddit and find a thread about Sombra, the hinted at but not yet revealed next hero, it’s like stepping into the opening scene of Conspiracy Theory.
I love it.
Those Overwatch fans, though? They’re not crazy. It turns out Blizzard is absolutely peppering the game with hints for its next hero.
Game Director Jeff Kaplan spoke with Eurogamer recently about all sorts of topics, including the future nerfing of McCree’s Fan the Hammer attack. In that discussion, Eurogamer talked about the hints for Sombra, the next potential hero. They asked if all the fan attention is strange. Kaplan’s response?
No, it was not strange. We have put a lot of hints, all over the game and out of the game, so I would say it’s about time that people are concerned with who Sombra is. I hope they keep researching more and find more hints that are out there.
You’ll love this next bit. Eurogamer asked if fans have found everything? Kaplan: “No. No sir.”
What have fans found? Well, you can hop over to this thread on Reddit to dig in deep. Redditor tisbutahumbug did a great job putting things together.
Based on in-game dialogue and findings, Sombra seems like a female hero, a shadowy figure, potentially a villain (like Reaper or Widowmaker, in the game’s lore) and, quite possibly, Pharah’s mother. Awesome.
We’ll have more on Sombra, whoever she is, as it comes.
