Pebble Core to offer Amazon Alexa voice controls built-in

The Pebble Core is still racking up orders on Kickstarter but it just got a pretty big upgrade. The company is adding support for Amazon Alexa to the 3G gadget, which is currently available for pre-order starting at $79.

That means your Pebble will be able to do pretty much anything the Amazon Echo can do, ranging from a quick weather check and controlling your smart home to ordering a pizza with a simple voice command. Combine that with 3G connectivity, and you get a powerful smart assistant that’s instantly accessible no matter where you go.

“Experiencing Amazon Alexa on-the-go right from Pebble Core is game-changing for wearable technology,” said Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky. “We’re longtime fans of the powerful voice services Alexa delivers, and it only gets smarter and more useful over time. It’s an approach we embrace with our own products.”

The Pebble Core works with the Pebble 2, Time 2, Time Steel and Time Round. It doesn’t support older models like the original Pebble and Pebble Steel, however.

The Core can stream music from Spotify and track your location with GPS, making it a great workout companion. It’s also designed to be customizable with two programmable buttons and a hardware expansion port so you can hack it to do pretty much anything you want.

The new device is set to ship early 2017 and comes in black or white. You can order one now on Kickstarter (link below.)
