Will Galaxy Note 7 feature new “Galaxy Eyeprint” tech?

by Jacob Kleinman | June 1, 2016June 1, 2016 9:40 am PDT

Last week Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Tab Iris, an eye-scanning slate designed specifically for the Indian market. Now it looks like the company could be bringing similar technology to the U.S. and Korea as well.

A series of recent Samsung trademarks in both countries reveal possible plans for a Galaxy Iris or Galaxy Eyeprint. This follows similar filings in Europe, suggesting the technology could actually get a global release. The filings don’t reveal many more details, but it sounds like the company is prepping a new feature for future smartphones and tablets. The next flagship from Samsung is likely the Galaxy Note 7, so it’s possible we’ll see it introduced in that smartphone.

Rumors of an eye-scanning Galaxy device have been floating around for years, though. Will they finally come to fruition?
