Google launched an incredible Project Ara video on Friday, when it also discussed the project in detail during an ATAP breakout session at Google I/O 2016. The company finally said when Project Ara will release to developers and consumers.

Developers, Google said, should expect the smartphones by the end of this year, sometime around the fourth quarter. Consumers should be able to buy the devices sometime in 2017, Google said. That means not only the frames but also the modules that make Project Ara so enticing. Imagine swapping out modules for  larger battery, for example, or a better camera, a speaker or upgrading the storage. These are all not only possible, but have been demonstrated by Google.

Watch the video below for a closer look at Project Ara.
