Kojima’s traveling the world to find an engine for his next game

Kojima Productions Ludens

Prolific game developer Hideo Kojima has been on a world tour of sorts lately. We now know why he’s been circling the globe in earnest, too.

Kojima admits that he’d rather create games with engines built by his team, but the first game from the independent version of Kojima Productions should come out much sooner than it would take to create a brand new game engine. So, as Kojima explained during the recent Nordic Game 2016 festival, he’s looking at third party alternatives.

“I actually think it’s better to make games using internal tools… As for my first title, because I want to release it to the people who are waiting for it, for that title we are going to use a third-party engine – the reason I am travelling around the world is looking for such technology to use.”

All these people he’s been meeting for the first time or seeing again? They want him making a big game.

“At the beginning I was thinking to make a small title, [but] after I met friends and acquaintances worldwide they said, ‘no everyone’s expecting you to make a big title’. So the first title coming from me will be a big title.”

I agree with them.

Whatever Kojima and his staff are cooking up could be huge. We’ll have more on their game as it comes.
