Uber this week introduced a new feature to its iOS application called Family Profiles. It works like “Find my Friends” on the iPhone, allowing you to keep track of family members as they skirt around in an Uber car. Sounds kind of creepy, but it’s optional and at least lets you track loved ones — like your children — when they get in a stranger’s car.
The Family Profile feature, once set up, will send you a pop-up notification letting you know when the trip has started. At that point, you can follow along on a map, or just ignore it and wait for a second notification letting you know the trip is finished. You’ll also get a copy of the receipt.
I think it’s a great option, and one I’d definitely use if my wife was coming home from New York City late at night, or if I had children who were using Uber linked to my credit card. Sometimes it’s worth the added peace of mind knowing where someone is, just in case something happens. No word on if or when this feature is coming to Android.
