Google’s new Allo and Duo apps coming this summer for Android and iOS

Google unveiled two cool new communication apps today during its I/O conference: Allo for messaging and Duo for video calls. Both are set to launch later this summer for Android and iOS.

Allo is a smart messaging app with Google built right in. You can chat directly with the company’s new smart assistant or bring it into a group conversation to help out. Allo also offers smart canned responses by scanning incoming text messages and photos.

Duo seems like a pretty clear attempt to take on Apple’s FaceTime with a clever twist. A special Knock Knock feature shows you live video from the incoming call before you answer. That way you know what kind of conversation you’re about to jump into.

We can’t wait to get our hands on these new apps. Hopefully, Google will have some demos available later today at I/O, but we may have to wait a few more months to try Allo and Duo for ourselves.
