NX won’t be a replacement for the 3DS or Wii U, reiterates Nintendo

Nintendo is going all out to let people know that the upcoming NX console is “something very new.” Comparing it to the Nintendo 3DS or Wii U will get you nowhere since this thing is so new that even Nintendo’s new president wants to play it!

Yes! Nintendo President and CEO Tatsumi Kimishima has stated in an interview with Asahi Shinbun that the NX is so exciting that it ” is something I’d like to play for the first time myself.”

What matters is what the NX feels like, and Kimishima plainly states that this will be something entirely new and not like the Wii U at all.

When the NX is released, the Wii U business will slow…However, the NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS. It’s a new way of playing games, which I think will have a larger impact than the Wii U, but I don’t feel it’s a pure replacement for the Wii U.

You can’t really blame Nintendo for wanting to distance itself from the Wii U. Sales haven’t been anywhere near as close to its previous generation consoles, and the console has been seen as a bit of a disappointment, even to longtime Nintendo fans such as myself.

Whatever the NX is, we should be finding out before the end of the year. Since it is launching in March 2017, Nintendo will have to open the floodgates a bit before then. I’m still holding out for a handheld that can be streamed to a television, but again, I don’t know anything.
