AT&T announced two new roaming initiatives on Monday that will appeal to new and existing customers. It’s a big step for AT&T, which typically charges a lot for international roaming.

The first is support for unlimited calling, texting and data use in Mexico. Customers who have a Mobile Share Value plan with at least 15GB of data will be able to activate the option beginning this Friday either online, in stores or using the MyAT&T application.

If you have an unlimited plan (or you’re a new customer signing up for one) you’ll also get unlimited text, talk and data in Canada and Mexico. Tablets can also share this international data, AT&T said. Customers only need to add the “Roam North America Data” to their plan, but it won’t cost anything.

AT&T said it holds the right to slow data speeds below LTE if a user consumes more than 22GB of data. Also, don’t plan on spending all of your time in Canada or Mexico; if you exceed 50 percent of your data in either country during two consecutive billing cycles, AT&T says it may remove the feature from your account.
