ZTE Axon 2 photo reveals a seamless metal design

ZTE’s original Axon came as a pleasant surprise, boasting flagship hardware and a unique design for just $450. Less than a year later, it looks like the Chinese company is gearing up for a sequel and, if early images are any indication, the Axon 2 could blow its predecessor away.

A Weibo post from ZTE’s CEO (via GizmoChina) shows the Axon 2 sandwiched between an iPhone 6s and Huawei’s P9. Unlike those devices, ZTE’s smartphone offers an extremely clean bottom edge with a charging port but no speakers or headphone jack. The device also sports a chamfered metal edge and what looks like a curved back panel.

Last month, the Axon 2 passed through the TENAA for Chinese certification, offering a more detailed look at the device. Included images showed a pair of front-facing speakers above and below the display. There also appears to be a fingerprint scanner in back.

As for the specs, the Axon 2 is rumored to pack a Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a 3140mAh battery, a 20-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel lens in front. ZTE’s also confirmed that the device will sport a 2K display. All combined, that should make for a killer new phone, assuming the company can keep the price from creeping too high.
