Tesla Model 3 “Ludicrous mode” confirmed

Did you pre-order the Tesla Model 3? We have good news, if so. Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the car will feature “Ludicrous Mode,” an option that’s available on the more expensive Model S and Model X.

Ludicrous Mode, on the 762 horsepower Model S P90D at least, allows the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. It was introduced in a special update last July, which complemented an already-fast “Insane” Mode. The Model X also offers Ludicrous mode, though it runs from 0-60 mph in a slightly slower 3.3 seconds.

Don’t expect Ludicrous mode on your entry-level Model 3. The feature is a $10,000 upgrade on the Model S, since it requires a special “smart fuse” and battery pack. The upgrade should be a no-brainer if you want the fastest Model 3 on the block, however.
