Motorola CEO Rick Osterloh will return to Google – Motorola Mobility’s parent company before it was sold to Lenovo – to lead a new hardware division.

Re/code first reported on the story and noted that Osterloh will lead a new hardware division that includes various projects, including everything from experimental gadgets in the ATAP program to the new Nexus smartphones.

Re/code specifically pointed to these areas that will fit under Osterloh’s direction: Nexus, Chromecast, Consumer Hardware, OnHub, ATAP and Glass. The last one there is particularly compelling since it was previously under Tony Fadell, who has come under recent scrutiny for his management of the Nest team. Also of note is ATAP, which was lead by Regina Dugan who recently jumped ship for Facebook.

Osterloh’s official title is senior vice president, Re/code said.
