Independence Day: Resurgence—The whole world is falling apart in new trailer

by Brandon Russell | April 22, 2016

It’s Earth Day! And, to celebrate the momentous occasion, a new trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence has been released. No better way to mark the annual event than to pretend we’re getting invaded by hateful aliens. “They like to get the landmarks.”

In all seriousness, Resurgence is looking a lot better than it has any right to be. Maybe we’re just not giving it enough credit, but when the movie was first announced, it didn’t sound like it would be all that and a bag of chips. Turns out, it could beat the snot out of the first film, which is now 20 years old.

What makes this new trailer so fun is not that it’s made entirely of new footage. We also get a better look at the characters in the movie, including Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher, who is playing the son of Will Smith’s recently deceased character, Steven Hiller.

Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters on June 24, 2016.
