Doom, Quake creator John Romero is teasing a new FPS

John Romero, one of the co-founders of id Software and co-creators of Doom and Quake, the games that popularized the first person shooter and helped spawn the dedicated graphics card industry, has been out of the limelight for a while. He’s looking to get back into things, though, and has a new shooter on the way.

That’s about all we know right now, though – the actual announcement is coming next week, and is teased with the video above, parodying the final scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Romero is working with Adrian Carmack, who helped found id Software along with Romero and John Carmack (no relation). Their studio is called Night Work Games and is located in Galway, Ireland.

Romero has been away from shooters since the release of the much-maligned Daikatana and, despite that game’s reputation, it’s exciting to see him returning to the genre. The full announcement is set for Monday, April 25.
