The Magnificent Seven remake gets a gritty first trailer

The Magnificent Seven, considered one of the greatest Westerns of all time, is getting the remake treatment. You can check out the first trailer for the reboot above. The original Magnificent Seven was actually inspired by Seven Samurai, a 3 1/2 hour epic that’s currently ranked #19 on IMDb’s top rated movies. So it’s a remake of a movie that was, in a sense, rebooted.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), The Magnificent Seven stars Denzel Washington as an outlaw who’s hired to recruit a motley crew of misfits in an effort to stop an industrialist wreaking havoc on a small town. There aren’t nearly enough Westerns these days, and this one looks fittingly epic.

Also starring in the movie is Chris Pratt, Byung-hun Lee, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Peter Sarsgaard. The Magnificent Seven hits theaters on Sept. 23.
