Overwatch’s Tracer is a natural fit for Heroes of the Storm

Come January, we’re going to be looking back on 2016 and most likely not be able to come up with a more popular new character than Overwatch’s Tracer. Unless Blizzard has a secret character that it has yet to reveal, an indie studio cranks out a future classic like Undertale, or Final Fantasy XV just dominates in the character development, Blizzard has a sure-fire winner on its hands here.

She’s fun, she’s spunky, she’s hot, she’s everything that’s great about games nowadays after a decade of gruff space marines, and dare I say, she has a bit of that carefree, 90s innocence about her that we can all use in our daily lives. Well, “innocence” except in this regard, of course.

Blizzard is going to want to slap her into every game it can, and what a better place than its own popular MOBA title, Heroes of the Storm? A new trailer highlights her Overwatch abilities and how they are put to use in Heroes of the Storm’s matches. Her “Blink” ability helps her dodge incoming enemy fire, and it also gets her close enough to take out opposing forces with a melee attack.

Otherwise, her dual energy pistols should be enough to get the job done.

Just think about it, though. Once Blizzard gets around to making a kart-racing game as Overwatch takes off, it will definitely include Tracer. And at that point, will she become the “Sonic the Hedgehog” of her generation! Don’t count that as blind optimism either. Blizzard knows how to make its IPs last for decades!

Tracer will be available in Heroes of the Storm on April 19 as a pre-order bonus for Overwatch: Origins Edition on PC. Those who wish to buy her separately can do so on April 26. Overwatch also launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 24.
