Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope‘s latter half was rather good. The bit with the Death Star, Han showing he’s not so bad after all and, of course, Obi-Wan sacrificing himself to become a higher power in the Force.
That last bit, the part about Obi-Wan dying? That wasn’t originally written to happen in A New Hope. Old Ben wasn’t going to die.
We know this because Peter Mayhew, the actor behind Chewbacca, has been posting script pages for the original Star Wars trilogy on Twitter. Here’s the page in question, along with the tweet from Mayhew.

Here’s a close-up of the page in question. Notice that Vader doesn’t strike Obi-Wan down. The two engage, stare at each other and then Old Ben appears in front of Threepio.
That’s pretty darn cool, if you ask me. Just about as cool as yesterday’s news regarding C-3PO. Yep, we now know why his arm is red in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Also, notice how the script refers to Vader as a Sith. Maybe my Star Wars knowledge is rusty, but do we ever hear the word Sith in the original trilogy? I’m not sure we do.

With Star Wars: Episode VIII more than a year away, Disney had to fill the gap with something—and that thing happens to be Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This is Disney’s first attempt at creating a standalone movie that exists inside the Star Wars universe, something that doesn’t directly concern the Skywalker saga. Up […]
The new Star Wars left us with a lot of questions. What made Kylo Ren turn to the Dark Side? Where did Supreme Leader Snoke come from? Where is Jar Jar Binks? (Kidding.) We can go on and on. But the question I want answered most is how Maz Kanata, who we meet on the planet Takodana, […]
One of the weird, tiny details in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was C-3PO’s arm. The once entirely golden droid now featured a red left arm. Its presence was never explained in the film, leaving the most diehard among fans wondering about why it was there at all. Now we know what’s up. The story behind […]
Here’s what we know about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: It’s going to take place before A New Hope, and it’s going to focus on a small group of Rebel fighters who attempt to steal the Death Star plans. Other than that, we don’t know much, and so far Disney been careful to keep […]
After sharing a brief production video of Episode VIII’s opening scene, director Rian Johnson has offered up another tease of the upcoming sequel. It’s not much but anything will do at this point. “Hard to believe we’re wrapping up week four already, it’s just flying,” Johnson said. The image is of cinematographer Steve Yedlin standing […]
