Apple Car concept has awesome tech, freakin’ ugly design

Close your eyes and try to imagine an Apple-designed car. It probably looks pretty sleek. Now check out this boxy Apple Car concept from Motor Trend, which trades looks for power with a boxy design that we hope never actually hits the road.

To be fair, Motor Trend packs some pretty awesome features into its concept car. That includes a transparent windshield display with augmented reality capabilities, a glass roof, sleek rear-view cameras, wireless charging and hands-free Siri controls. A single giant door on each side would swing open to let you into the vehicle, with built-in privacy dividers on the inside.

One of the coolest features in the concept is the augmented reality windshield. It could show a small map with driving directions or weather updates right in your field of view without becoming a distraction. The Apple Car’s software could even identify pedestrians and other drivers to help avoid a crash.

Still, we can’t get over the awkward exterior design. Sure it’s all gold, metal and glass with a few nice flourishes, but it’s also kind of ugly. We hope that Apple’s secret project is better looking than this.
