iPhone 7 said to pack iPad Pro Smart Connector

A new rumor out of Japan suggests that Apple is going to use the same Smart Connector technology used on the iPad Pro and 9.7-inch iPad Pro with the new iPhone 7. It’s not the first time we’ve heard that rumor, but it’s the first time that MacoTakara, typically pretty accurate with its Apple leaks, has said that an earlier leaked photo of the phone is probably accurate.

The rough translation, specifically, says “the possibility is great that the picture of the housing of the iPhone 7 Plus” published by Nowherelese are “the real thing.” That’s the image we’ve included above which, as you can see, clearly shows the Smart Connector at the bottom. What’s it for? We’re not sure, it’s used for the keyboard on both iPad Pro models. Maybe Apple has something else planned for the iPhone?

The report also suggests Apple will stick with a mono speaker, which means it won’t have the same stereo option included in the new iPad Pro tablets. It also suggests, yet again, that the double camera setup will indeed make an appearance on at least one new iPhone 7 model.

Apple’s new iPhones are expected sometime in September.
