Square Enix announces new Valkyrie Profile, smells like a mobile game

Valkyria Anatomia

This is not the Valkyrie Profile sequel you’re looking for. However, Square Enix is wasting no time capitalizing on the “tri-Ace notalgia” sparked by Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, and a brand new game in the developer’s other fan-favorite franchise is now scheduled for release later this year.

We don’t know anything about Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin just yet, but I can just tell by the title and logo that it is bound for smartphones and tablets. The game is currently “planned for distribution” only in Japan sometime in 2016, and it is possible the game won’t even make it to North American shores like a good many of Square Enix’s mobile games.

However, the game does employ some pretty big names from the Japanese gaming scene, including Producer Yoshinori Yamagishi, composer Moto Sakuraba, and Scenario Writer Daisuke “Bun-O FUJISAWA” Fujisawa.

So while not all hope is lost, this is not Valkyrie Profile 3 in any sense. For that to happen, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is going to have to be a hit. Be sure to buy it on June 28 for the PlayStation 4.
