I don’t think it would be surprising to learn I’m not the biggest fan of Tom Clancy video games. However, would it shock you to realize that it was a Tom Clancy game which got me to upgrade to an Xbox 360?
Yup, back when I sold my JRPG soul to the devil, 21-year-old Ron skipped out on the PlayStation 3 to buy an Xbox 360 for the purpose of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas. That lead to a short period in my life where JRPGs were officially on the back-burner, and shooters became my “go-to” genre. I don’t regret spreading my wings for a few years, but luckily, Persona 3, Valkyria Chronicles, and Demon’s Souls eventually came around to knock some sense into me.
I say this because I’m tempted to go back and play Rainbow Six: Vegas, seeing that it’s on sale for a mere $5 this week on the PlayStation Store. Tagging along with it are both of the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games and most of the Splinter Cell games, all dirt cheap and totally worth the price. Yes, there once was a time when I loved what Ubisoft was doing with espionage and tactical shooters, and every single game that encapsulated that time period is available here and definitely worth the asking price.
Oh yeah, and Tom Cancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege is available right now for $38.99 if you want that. However, if you talk to me like they do in that embarrassing E3 trailer, you’re going to get muted.
