When Samsung unveiled its new Gear 360 camera alongside the Galaxy S7 series at Mobile World Congress, it neglected to tell us how much it would cost. Now the new accessory has been priced ahead of its debut in the coming months.
The Gear 360 camera is capable of capturing 360-degree photos and videos at 3840×1920 resolution. That’s makes it ideal for shooting content for a VR headset like Gear VR, but it can also be used to shoot single images at a 30-megapixel resolution in dual lens mode.
The device packs dual 15-megapixel CMOS sensors and dual f/2.0 fisheye lenses; built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC connectivity; a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 128GB in capacity, and single- and dual-lens shooting modes.
So, the Gear 360 is Samsung’s alternative to LG’s 360 Cam, but it’s going to be a lot more expensive. While LG’s shooter is priced at $200 — and can be obtained for free when you pick up the G5 with certain carriers — Samsung’s has been priced at $349.99.
The Gear 360 has already been listed by B&H, which says it is “coming soon.” Samsung has promised that the device will go on sale sometime during Q2 2016, which means it will arrive anytime between now and the end of June.
