GoPro officially unveils amazing Omni rig for 360-degree video (Updated)

GoPro has been teasing its VR camera rig for a while. The company first announced plans for the product in 2015, and offered a peek at the Omni back in February. Now, we’re getting a more detailed look at the device.

According to Engadget, the GoPro Omni packs in six of the company’s Hero4 cameras. The rig also includes extra hardware and software that will stitch the cameras together to create a single 360-degree image at “pixel level.” However, it won’t be capable of recording in 3D like the company’s 16-camera Odyssey system, which was unveiled by Google last year.

GoPro hasn’t said how much the Omni will cost, but all those cameras on their own run about $3,000. Even if it costs a little more than that altogether, the new product will still be a steal compared to the $15,000 Odyssey.

The company is set to show off the Omni in person later this month at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas, so we should know more pretty soon.

Update: An earlier version of this article said the Omni’s price was $3,000. GoPro has not yet announced how much the final product will cost.
