Xiaomi’s Transformer toy morphs into a tablet (that doesn’t actually work)

Xiaomi already makes everything from smartphones and smart TVs to air purifiers and connected lamps. Now the company can also add a Transformers toy to the list.

The Chinese giant is teaming up with Hasbro on a new action figure that transforms into Xiaomi’s Mi Pad 2 tablet. It’s not actually a working tablet, but the company put a ton of effort into making it as realistic as possible. From the front, it almost looks like a regular Android slate, while the back hides all the moving parts that can morph into a fighting alien robot.

Xiaomi exec Hugo Barra said the entire transformation takes 30 steps. Personally, I was never able to master any of those Transformer toys, but maybe you’ll have better luck.

Xiaomi is crowd-funding this project on its website, and it looks like the company already blew past its goal. The tablet Transformer costs just $26, though getting it shipped outside of China will likely cost extra.
