It’s been a long time in the making, but Final Fantasy XV is due for release in a matter of months. The game’s release date was announced at the end of March, and now the world knows that it’s coming on September 30, 2016.
What about Square Enix? How long have they had that date pegged? Well, it turns out that September 30, 2016, was the slated for the official launch date all the way back in 2013.
This info was revealed in an interview with Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata in Famitsu. Here’s what he explained, as translated by the fine folks at Siliconera.
“I wasn’t the director at first, but when I was formally entrusted with the duty (in December 2013), ‘September 30, 2016 is when we’ll release it,’ was the first thing that was decided…
…[the date] was not something that was randomly decided, but it was something we saw when considering the time and cost for the amount of resources we had.”
To stick to that intended release date for a length of three years is nuts, especially given Final Fantasy XV‘s development history.
Are you excited for this one?
