Marvel’s Iron Fist casts Jessica Henwick in lead role

Jessica Henwick, a young actress who appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as an X-Wing pilot and also had a role in Game of Thrones, has been cast as the lead in Marvel’s Iron Fist.

Henwick will play Colleen Wing, a martial arts expert who becomes an ally to Danny Rand (Finn Jones), aka Iron Fist. Additionally, Wing becomes good friends with Misty Knight, a character we’ll see appear in Luke Cage, which comes out this September.

With Colleen Wing now confirmed to appear in Iron Fist, Marvel might be setting up a potential spinoff for the character. After The Defenders, Netflix hasn’t revealed what is has planned, but giving Wing her own series certainly makes a lot of sense.

In the comics, in addition to becoming friends with Knight, the two start up an investigative agency known as the Daughters of the Dragon. Later on, she also creates Heroes for Fire with Knight, a small business that offers investigation and protection services.

A release date hasn’t been set for Iron Fist—filming hasn’t even started—but with Henwick’s casting, the pieces are being set in place for one hell of a show.
