LG recently published the first commercial for the LG G5, its new flagship Android smartphone that will launch in the U.S. in just a few days, beginning on April 1.
The ad features badass actor Jason Statham, best known for his appearances in movies such as Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Crank and The Transporter. He plays a single role in the commercial that is… not so badass.
The ad opens up with Statham dressed as an old lady in pearls. He’s holding the G5 in the shot and you’ll note the smartphone is equipped with the new camera attachment, also known as the LG CAM Plus. If you look around the scene, you’ll notice every single person in the restaurant is, indeed, Jason Stratham. Kinda freaky. The main character smiles and the shot cuts to a splash page that reads: The fun begins April 1.
Don’t recognize him? It’s this dude:
The commercial was directed by filmmaker Fredrik Bond and was produced by LG’s ad partner Energy BBDO. LG said that future commercials will show Statham “experiencing the G5 in exciting and fun ways.”
