Overwatch’s first animated short is incredible – Watch it now!

Blizzard originally envisioned its upcoming shooter Overwatch to be a violent game with all the charms of a Saturday morning cartoon. Armed with its history of top-notch CG and stunning new character art, it has already fired up its own series of animated shorts, the first of which is available now.

“Recall” stars Winston, the apparent leader of the Overwatch team. And yes, he’s a gorilla, one who’s bored of “human” civilian life and obviously antsy with anticipation to get back into the “good ol’ days” of the superhero gig. However, with his squad deemed illegal, it would take a cataclysmic event to convince the world that it once again needs the Overwatch initiative back in action.

And that’s just what happens in this short story. A motive erupts when the villain from Big Hero 6 (just kidding, of course) shows up and gives the gorilla a pretty big one. Winston starts getting the band back together, and Blizzard will hopefully keep cranking these little bits out just like Valve did back in the Team Fortress 2 days.

Only without the huge delays in between.

Overwatch launches on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 24.
