Galaxy S7 survives 45 minutes in a washing machine

The Galaxy S7 boasts an IP68 rating, meaning it can survive under water for up to 30 minutes without taking any damage. We did a good amount of testing in our own review to make sure Samsung’s flagship could withstand the elements, but one YouTuber decided to push the new phone even further.

In the video above, Max Lee throws his new Galaxy S7 into an LG washing machine and lets it run a full 45-minute cycle. The phone survives without any noticeable damage. The fingerprint reader, speaker, microphone and camera all seem to work just fine.

To be fair, the Galaxy S7 didn’t go in totally unprotected. Lee decided to apply a transparent bumper-style case, noting that the goal of this test was to check for water-resistance, not general durability. We’re impressed the phone’s uncovered display didn’t crack or scratch after 45 minutes bouncing around in a washing machine.

We definitely don’t recommend trying this one at home, but it’s nice to know that the Galaxy S7 should hold up fine if it accidentally ends up in the washing machine.
