Multiplayer has always been core to id Software’s games, and DOOM was one of the very first in that tradition. The series reboot picks up that tradition, offering six different ways to go to Hell with or against your friends.
Soul Harvest is DOOM‘s take on Call of Duty‘s Kill Confirmed. After dropping an enemy, you’ll have to pick up their immortal soul before you’ll get credit for your kill.
Freeze Tag is, well, freeze tag, but with guns. You’ll freeze your enemies, who can be thawed by their teammates by proximity or via creative methods of team killing, which will allow them to respawn unfrozen.
Warpath is pretty close to King of the Hill, but with a moving capture point, while Domination has three static capture points and works pretty much like it does in other games.
Team Deathmatch and Clan Arena are both straight kill competitions, but the former is about kill count while the latter is a last-player-standing contest.
With the exception of Clan Arena, each of these modes features a Demon Rune that will drop in to modify gameplay, powering up a player to let them collect more souls, break ties, or just give them a fearsome power-up.
It’s a pretty standard loadout of multiplayer modes, with Freeze Tag being the most unique offering, but if the game’s action holds up then the old standbys might provide plenty to do.
DOOM hits PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 13.
