We cover plenty of phones that catch fire. The latest is an iPhone 6s that reportedly caught fire during an Alaska Airlines flight. Talk about a scary scenario.
According to ABCNews, a young woman named Anna Crail was on a flight to Hawaii, probably looking forward to some scuba diving and surfing, just kicking back and watching a quick flick when suddenly the iPhone burst into flames. “All of a sudden there was like 8-inch flames coming out of my iPhone,” Crail told the news outlet. “And I flipped it off onto the ground and it got under someone’s seat and the flames were just getting higher and a bunch of people stood up…. I thought we were going down.”
I don’t think kicking the phone under a seat was the best idea, but I don’t know what it’s like to be in that sort of scenario either. It’s unclear what caused it, maybe Crail was using a third-party charger plugged into the airline outlet? That’s usually the case.
The flight landed safely and now Apple and the FAA are investigating.
