iPhone SE looks “almost exactly” like iPhone 5s

The iPhone SE, Apple’s rumored new 4-inch smartphone, is set to make its debut on Monday. There’s still some debate about what the device will look like, but a new report from 9to5Mac and the reliable Mark Gurman claims to set the record straight.

According to Gurman and his inside source, the iPhone SE will be “nearly identical” to the iPhone 5s, with a second source adding that the design is “almost exactly the same.” The new iPhone apparently features a boxy design with round volume buttons and the power button on top. The front edges could be slightly curved, but not enough to be noticeable.

The biggest visual change may be a matte finish instead of the shiny exterior on the iPhone 5s. As a result, the iPhone SE won’t scratch as easily as its 4-inch predecessor. It should also be available in Rose Gold like the iPhone 6s.

When it comes to specs, the iPhone SE will be closer to the iPhone 6s. The 4-inch handset is expected to pack new A9 and M9 chips, NFC and Touch ID for Apple Pay, 16GB and 64GB storage options, and Apple’s latest 12-megapixel camera with 4K video recording. It may even be capable of taking Live Photos.

At this point, we may know pretty much everything there is to know about the iPhone SE, though we’re still hoping Apple can find a way to surprise us at Monday’s event.
