Uber has a new feature families will love

Uber announced a new feature this week that families are going to love. It’s still in beta testing, so you won’t see it everywhere just yet, but it will allow multiple people to share a single profile within the application.

That means families will be able to set a single method of payment that kids can use with a shared account. Little Bobby might have missed the school bus and, instead of waiting in the school yard until you’re off of work (kids don’t play outside these days, remember?) he can just open up the Uber app on his iPhone and hitch a ride home on your Amex account. More importantly, though, this will enable adults to share Uber with elderly family members who might not know how to set the service up. My grandma uses Uber, by the way.

“As soon as the Family Profile rider accepts the invitation, they can begin requesting rides from their own phone using the Family Profile as their payment method,” Uber explained. “The cost of the trip will automatically be billed to the Family Profile and the organizer will receive a receipt for every ride.”

Family Profile is being tested in Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix right now, and allows up to 10 family members to share an account.
