If you’ve played Gear of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10, you’re eligible to participate in the beta for Gears of War 4. Now, thanks to a post from Xbox’s director of programming, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, we know when that will happen.
“Beginning on April 18,” Hryb writes, “fans who have played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10 will begin to receive tokens in waves for early access to the beta.”
The early access period ends a week later on April 24 when “all qualifying Xbox Live Gold members” on Xbox One will be able to join through the end of the beta on May 1.
As a courtesy, Microsoft is extending the time in which you can qualify for early access, too. All you need to do is play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition between now and April 11 (the date was previously March 1) on Xbox One or Windows 10, meaning that simply borrowing a disc on Xbox One or renting it from something like RedBox would be enough to qualify.
This is the start of a new chapter of Gears under a new developer, so the beta should be revealing about what we can expect from the full game, which is scheduled to release this fall for Xbox One (and maybe PC).
