According to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder, he wanted Christian Bale to appear in the upcoming superhero showdown—but not as the character you might think.
Speaking to FilmInk, Snyder said he wanted Bale to fill an undetermined role, like “Alfred with age makeup.”
“This is a total and opposite reality from the Chris Nolan movies,” Snyder explained. It’s another universe, so we couldn’t hire Christian Bale if we wanted to, because he doesn’t exist in our world. Maybe we could hire him to play another part. We did talk about that briefly.”
So Snyder wanted him in the movie but not as Batman, and he didn’t even really know where he’d fit in. Ultimately, Snyder decided not to pursue that idea though apparently people from the studio wanted actors from the Nolan Batman movies to appear in the new film.
Who knows if Bale would have even agreed to be in a Batman movie where he doesn’t play Batman. Let’s not forget the Oscar winner recently said he “didn’t quite nail” the part, so he probably would have said no anyway.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
