Google released its first Android N preview this week, offering a first look at the company’s next big software update. Android N is currently limited to just a handful of devices, but it looks like we may be able to add one older handset to the list.
A page from Google’s Git repository for Android N reveals a version of the preview for the Nexus 5. The device is listed here by its codename Hammerhead. For now, Google appears to be testing the update internally, but there’s hope that Android N could eventually be available for Nexus 5 owners still holding onto the beloved smartphone.
The Android N preview officially launched for the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and Pixel C. If you own any of those devices, you can try out the new operating system now though you may run into a few early bugs. Google’s also offering a 25 percent discount on the Pixel C so developers can get their hands on Android N right away.
