Christian Bale says he “didn’t quite nail” Batman

If you ask just about any Batman fan which movie is their favorite, The Dark Knight is a good bet. Part of that was Christian Bale’s portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman. While his “Batman voice” has been criticized, he definitely helped connect Bruce Wayne and Batman together, grounding the character the way the other characters, sets, and set pieces did.

Even so, Bale feels like he could’ve done more.

“I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would through the trilogy,” he told Yahoo! Movies while promoting his new movie, Knight of Cups (no relation to The Dark Knight, of course). “Chris did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.'”

This, he said, was furthered by the late Heath Ledger’s turn as the Joker.

“Heath turned up and just kind of completely ruined all my plans, because I went, ‘he’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.'”

Depending on how the upcoming Batman v Superman does, and how Ben Affleck’s Batman is received, maybe he’ll change his tune in a couple months.
