Film Fondue: We know exactly how Star Wars: Episode VIII will begin

With less than a month to go until Batman v Superman hits theaters, the marketing machine is now in overdrive. In addition to several new TV spots, plenty of new information about the film has come out, revealing Lex Luthor’s manipulative ways and Superman’s delicate psyche. You’d think someone so powerful wouldn’t be vulnerable but it turns out he’s in an emotionally fragile state when the film roles around.

But not even gobs of new Batman v Superman info beats the arrival of the new Ghostbusters trailer. TechnoBuffalo got a chance to see it a day early and discuss the film with director Paul Feig and co-writer Katie Dippold, who are hoping to reach a new generation with the new team, which includes Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. It looks hilarious and there are a lot of fun nods to the original, so things look promising in the early going.

Meanwhile, we got the chance to check out Disney Animation’s Zootopia ahead of its March 4 release here in the U.S., and it’s absolutely worth your time. Not only does it feature gorgeous animation but it’s hilarious, and it has a wonderful message, too. It perfectly captures the zeitgeist of today’s political landscape.

Star Wars: Episode VIII

Daisy Ridley revealed Episode VIII will pick up right where Episode VII left off, a first for Star Wars. Typically years pass between episodes, but given the cliffhanger audiences were left with, it would be weird for there to be a time jump. Ridley also revealed Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, is a delight to work with. Hopefully we’ll see much more of Luke when Episode VIII hits next December. [MTV]

Fox makes some announcements

Fox has some good news and some more good news. The good news is that we now have official release dates for two sci-fi projects coming in the next few years. The “more” part of this equation is a little more complicated

Up first, Predator has been scheduled to come out on March 2, 2018, while Alien: Covenant has been set for Aug. 4, 2017. Meanwhile, Fox has set dates for two mysterious projects, set for Oct. 6, 2017 and Jan. 12, 2018. Unfortunately, we have no idea what these movies might be.

Fox recently put Gambit on indefinite hiatus, so that could be one of them. The other might be Deadpool 2, which seems like a sure bet following the movie’s incredible box office success. [1, 2]

Angry Birds international trailer

Want to see new footage from the upcoming Angry Birds movie? Of course you do. Plenty of wonderful talent is involved in the flick but I can’t help but think this is a terrible, terrible idea. Who knows, it could be one of this year’s biggest surprises. We’ll find out when Angry Birds hits on May 20.

Legends of the Hidden Temple

If you didn’t grow up watching Nickelodeon’s Legends of the Hidden Temple, then you have no reason to get excited. But if you were a fan of the show, then you’ll be happy to hear the beloved property is getting rebooted as a TV movie. Below is the film’s synopsis:

In HIDDEN TEMPLE, three siblings must conquer a series of obstacles to remain alive, mirroring the theme of the original game show. The TV movie, slated to appear in the fourth quarter of 2016, will nod to other elements from the original show, including Olmec, a talking head who knows the secrets behind the temple; the Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad for the mission; and cameos from a green monkey, red jaguar and silver snakes, among others. Isabela Moner, known from her role on Nick’s 100 THINGS TO DO BEFORE HIGH SCHOOL, will star. The ARNOLD movies are slated to appear in 2017. [Variety]

Ice Age: Collision Course

A full trailer for Ice Age: Collision Course has been released. Let’s not pretend you didn’t chuckle at the opening bit. This will be the last movie in the Ice Age saga and it looks like it’s going out with a bang.

Big Hero 6 is getting a TV show

One of the best animated movies ever is coming to TV. Set to premiere in 2017 on Disney XD, the show will follow Hiro during his day-to-day life, but we’ll also see him, Baymax and the rest of the crew (Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred and Go Go) help protect San Fransokyo, the fictional city that merges San Francisco and Tokyo. [EW]

Finding Dory

After several teasers, an official trailer for Finding Dory has been released. It’s cute and fun and features some familiar characters, but also introduces plenty of new faces. Finding Dory released on June 17, 2016.

March is going to be great for movies and TV

After a relatively quiet past few months, we’re about to get bombarded by new content. (The quality, well, we’ll find out.) Aside from maybe Kung Fu Panda 3 and Deadpool, there hasn’t been too much to get excited about in 2016. Shameless returned to Showtime. The Walking Dead is back. That OJ Simpson show is getting […]

The Dolby Theatre transforms: What it takes to prepare for the Oscars

Ahead of the Oscars this Sunday, TechnoBuffalo got a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to transform the Dolby Theatre for the biggest show in entertainment.

Batman v Superman—Batman gets pummeled by Superman in new clip

Instead of giving us more TV spots and trailers, Warner Bros. has released a clip from Batman v Superman, in which we see our two heroes duking it out. It’s unclear at which point in the movie the fight takes place but it shows even though Batman is clearly outmatched, his cleverness gives him an […]

Oscars 2016 recap: Mad Max wins but doesn’t

Leo won. He did it. We’re all happy for him. It was his sixth nomination but his first win and deserved for someone who has had such a phenomenal career. I guess all he needed to do is put himself through intense physical pain to be recognized by his peers. Leo’s win wasn’t the only big […]

Wolverine 3 might feature Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth

In addition to the possibility of adapting the Old Man Logan storyline, it sounds like the filmmakers are ready to reunite Wolverine with one of the most famous X-Men. While walking the red carpet at the Oscars yesterday, MTV caught up with actor Liev Schreiber, who played Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and asked him […]

Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is finally getting the movie it deserves

The long-awaited film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is finally getting made after several years in limbo—and it’s already attracting some huge talent. Entertainment Weekly broke the news on Tuesday, saying Idris Elba will play the gunslinger, aka Roland Deschain, while Matthew McConaughey is set to play the man in black, a devil […]

Gods of Egypt director has Facebook meltdown, calls critics “diseased vultures”

Gods of Egypt hit theaters this weekend, and it hit with a thud. While Deadpool continues to rake in cash and push the expectations of comic book-adapted R-rated films, Gods of Egypt didn’t even make it to $20 million (on a $140 million budget and who knows how much marketing). It’s rated at 12 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and […]

Fuller House renewed for a second season by Netflix

It appears that Netflix wants an even fuller house. That’s okay, I’ll go sit in the corner now for my horrible joke. Announced via a tweet on Wednesday morning, Netflix has ordered a second season of Fuller House, the relaunch of the popular 1990s sitcom Full House. https://twitter.com/fullerhouse/status/705029917520474112 No word as of yet as to […]

Ghostbusters trailer is everything you hoped it would be

Here it is! Sony Pictures on Thursday released the first trailer for the new Ghostbusters, and it is a glorious sight to behold. It’s been 27 years since the second Ghostbusters came out, but over that period of time, the film’s spirit and fanbase haven’t died, making today’s trailer particularly special. It’s everything we hoped […]

Fan recut of the new Ghostbusters trailer is better than the original

Yesterday’s Ghostbusters trailer saw a huge wave of mixed reception from fans around the world. The new cast mixed with the more modern dialogue and some questionable editing made fans either love it, meh it, or totally hate it. And, ususally, said fans were vocal. YouTube user Bevan Bell (and Redditor AbrahamAshley) took it upon themselves to recut the trailer. […]

Ghostbusters: Bringing the iconic franchise back to the big screen

Do we really need a reboot? That’s what a lot of longtime fans asked when Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters project was announced last year. Some things you just don’t change, like Cheerios or the recipe for Coca-Cola. And, yet, after hearing Feig, co-writer Katie Dippold, and original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman discuss the film during a special […]

Zootopia REVIEW: Fun, hilarious and immensely important

Zootopia is a fun film that uses animation and jokes to provide a lesson on race, prejudice, segregation, bullying and political corruption all thinly veiled in the world of cartoon animals. Certainly more than what you’d expect from an animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Or is it? The subject matter is quite timely […]

Suicide Squad sequel already being planned

We’re still five months away from the release of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad but Warner Bros. has already green-lit a sequel. People seem much more hyped for the project compared to Batman v Superman, so it’s no surprise to hear the studio wants to see the team go on more suicide missions. It would be […]

House of Cards Season 4 is now streaming on Netflix

One of my favorite shows, Waking up with the Underwoods, has seen its fourth season arrive on Netflix. That’s right, all 13 episodes of the fourth season of House of Cards are now available for streaming. This season appears to really pit Frank against Claire, especially going off of the show’s description courtesy of Netflix. They’ve always been […]

Kitano is known for wearing many hats, including that of director, actor and comedian, and is best known to Western audiences for 2000’s Battle Royale and 2003’s Zatoichi. Variety says Kitano […]

“Rick and Morty” season 3 coming later this year with 14 new episodes

Rick and Morty fans have been waiting anxiously for new episodes ever since season two ended on a major cliffhanger. Now we finally have a bit of news thanks to the show’s creator, Dan Harmon. Speaking at Florida Supercon earlier this year, Harmon revealed that the series will return near the end of 2016. That’s […]

Don’t mess with Keanu Reeves after John Wick 2’s firearm training

Keanu Reeves has gotten flack over the years for some of his choices in roles, but his return to action in John Wick quieted down a lot of that. Now, with the release of a video of the actor training for the sequel, anyone still talking will probably shut up. Because Keanu Reeves seems pretty dangerous. Reeves […]
