Alan Wake’s Return isn’t a trademark for a game

Just last week, our cold, black hearts filled with hope when a trademark for a new Alan Wake property appeared in a European trademark database. We were hoping it was a sequel, despite evidence suggesting otherwise.

And, sadly, it wasn’t to be.

The trademark is for an in-game video series in Quantum Break, which I noticed at least one preview making mention of. Creative Director Sam Lake confirmed this to Kotaku, explaining that “a big part of the trademarking process, all in all, is the legalities of it. Just making sure everything is covered.”

Lake said there is “no real news about anything Alan Wake related,” but says the team is “exploring possibilities and concepting different things.”

At least we’ll be able to play the original Alan Wake on Xbox One soon, right?
