Super Nintendo games coming to New 3DS Virtual Console

Nintendo fans have been nagging for the chance to play Super Nintendo games on their 3DS handhelds through the Virtual Console for a long time, and Nintendo is finally granting them the ability to do so.

During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo announced plans to bring SNES games to the New Nintendo 3DS. Be warned! The original Nintendo 3DS will not be able to support these titles.

The new initiative starts today with Super Mario World, Pilotwings, and F-Zero available for download right now. I shouldn’t have to tell you that Super Mario World is one of the best video games ever made and that it is totally worth revisiting as soon as possible. Pick it up today!

On March 24, Nintendo will release a handful of other classics including Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, and even Earthbound! April 14 will chug out three more games in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Conquest.

Nintendo just took one major step towards a universal handheld that plays all of your classic favorites. My dream is coming true! Still no Game Boy Advance games, but this exciting announcement from Nintendo has convinced me to finally upgrade to the New Nintendo 3DS. Of course, once the possibly portable NX comes out, I’ll need to upgrade yet again.

It’s a never ending cycle with Virtual Console.
