If you experienced a sense of déjà vu while playing Far Cry Primal, you aren’t alone. GamePressure.com dug around and found out that the basic map topography for Ubisoft’s caveman murder and cat petting simulator was pulled from Far Cry 4.
Kotaku was able to confirm this with an anonymous source familiar with Ubisoft, who explained that the team behind Primal used Far Cry 4‘s heightmaps as a basis for the map in Primal.

There are definitely some basic similarities, though Primal certainly had a substantial visual overhaul.
It doesn’t affect how I feel about the game compared to when I reviewed it, though I imagine Ubisoft is going to have to be more careful about how they do stuff like this now that fans are starting to take notice.
