Oppo unveiled some exciting mobile technology at MWC last month, including a new type of image stabilization and even faster charging, but there wasn’t a new smartphone to go with it. Thankfully, it looks like the Chinese firm could have a surprise up its sleeve, with plans to announce the Oppo R9 at an event on March 17 in Beijing.
The company recently began teasing the Oppo R9 on its Weibo page. One image shows a profile of the device in gold, with another post hinting at a redesigned camera. Rumor has it the handset will pack a 21-megapixel shooter, along with a Snapdragon 820 chip, a 6-inch Quad HD display, a 3700mAh battery, 64GB of storage and up to 4GB of RAM.
Oppo has introduced some interesting phones in the past, including some with pretty cool rotating cameras. We’re excited to see the R9 unveiled later this month, even if the Chinese smartphone probably won’t be available in the U.S. at launch.
