This is a bit of a bummer. We’re starting to learn a bit more about the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge now that consumers are starting to receive their T-Mobile units early. Last night, we published a bunch of comparison images between the Galaxy S7 Edge and the iPhone 6s Plus. Now there’s a bit of additional information on the always-on-display.
Redditor “andy2na” said that the always-on-display doesn’t currently support notifications from third-party applications. That means you won’t see alerts from Facebook, Hangouts, WhatsApp, Instagram or anything else that isn’t built by Samsung. “Only when you use Samsung apps will they show up (stock mail, messaging, etc),” Andy2na explained.
It’s possible and even likely that Samsung will open this up to third-party developers if it hasn’t already. But it sounds like that always-on-display won’t be very useful for most folks.
