If you’re one of the many who downloaded Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow (or all three) from the Nintendo 3DS eShop this weekend, you’re probably working your way through the game and leveling up a beast of an original team.
Why not take those Pokémon with you when it’s time to upgrade to Pokémon Sun or Moon when those new entries release later this year? Well, Nintendo announced during last week’s Pokémon Direct that doing so will be possible.
The Virtual Console versions of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow support Pokémon Bank storage, but only if you pay the $4.99 annual subscription fee for Pokémon Bank, of course. You will be able to transfer your Pokémon from the Virtual Console games to the Pokémon Bank and from the Pokémon Bank to Sun and/or Moon.
The bogus news? You can only transfer these classic Pokémon to Sun and Moon. They will not transfer to X, Y, Alpha Sapphire or Omega Ruby.
