New Brita Infinity pitcher orders its own filters via Wi-Fi

While we’re impressed with Amazon’s “Dash Replenishment system,” which allows smart appliances like dish washing and laundry machines to reorder their own soap, the latest device seems a little silly on the surface. It’s a connected Brita “Smart” pitcher that’s capable of reordering its own filters using Dash Replenishment. Who needs one of these things?

Well, me for one.

The Brita Infinity Water Pitcher “connects with the service to ensure automatic replacement filter orders are made when the filter nears its capacity – roughly 40 gallons of water,” the company explained on Monday. “While the service is automatic, the person stays in control and can easily manage their orders and deliveries online at any time.”

The Brita Infinity makes sense for a couple reasons. First, it helps ensure additional sales of filters from people who probably don’t go out and buy them. Second, it helps educate consumers that they need to replace their filters. I don’t think I’ve ever changed mine, I’m just sort of hoping my wife does. Something about the Brita just seems like it’s always clean anyway. Kind of grossed out now that I think of it.
