Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir trailer shows of its deep, customizable combat system

Odin Sphere is more than just a pretty face. Underneath that gorgeous high-resolution art is a deep and customizable combat system that is just begging to be exploited by those who love to tinker with mechanics.

The latest trailer for the upcoming remaster, Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, shows off each of the five playable characters’ unique styles and abilities. The game gives players the ability to upgrade their techniques with an energy called Phozons, making them more powerful than before. From there, players can assign these moves to silky smooth commands and string them together to max out their effectiveness.

Most of the characters fall into a quick and combo-heavy style of melee combat, but I also like the practically bullet hell style of gameplay that Mercedes the fairy brings to the game. I mean, she’s sporting that  machine-gun, rocket launching crossbow. Has there ever been a better weapon in a video game?

Just another reason for this release to be one of the most exciting retro remasters of the year. Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir launches for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita on June 7.
