Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will have dual protagonists

Come on, Nihon Falcom! I was only half-joking, half-hypothesizing in my constant references to a blue haired anime girl awaiting Adol at the end of his next adventure. You didn’t have to go and submit to my awful sense of humor!

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will indeed star it’s long-time protagonist Adol Christin in yet another disastrous castaway adventure, but development team Nihon Falcom has come out to confirm he will not be the only hero. In a sort of “dual-protagonist’ system, sometimes players will be controlling Adol, and other times, they will jump into the shoes of Dana, a titular blue haired anime maiden.

Dana’s portion of the adventure will play out in Adol’s dreams when the crimson haired wanderer falls asleep. In them, he’ll be able to experience her life and tribulations as if they were his own. Any actions made in either the real world or dream world will affect the other in many ways.

Dana is also apparently more powerful and faster than Adol, making her a capable fighter in combat.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will launch for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan this summer. No word on a localization yet, but I doubt XSEED is going to let us down on this one. The Ys series is just fantastic and deserves as much exposure as it can get.
