Facebook’s emoji “Reactions” go live on web and mobile

Facebook officially rolled out its new Like button on Wednesday, adding five new emoji reactions along with the original thumbs up icon. The new feature is available globally on mobile and the web, though it might take a little longer to reach some people.

Using the new reactions is pretty easy and intuitive. On a mobile device just press down on the Like button and a list of options will pop up, then you can pick an appropriate emoji with a quick tap. To do the same thing on a computer just hover the mouse over the Like button for a second.

Facebook put a lot of thought into the new reactions, even hiring sociologists to help narrow down the list of emoji options. Last year the company started testing the feature in a few countries. Now it’s ready for primetime, though we may still see new options pop up in the future as the social network continues to tweak its latest improvement.
