HP Elite X3 hands-on: Windows 10 for phones, Snapdragon 820, QHD and more

HP brought its big Windows game to MWC 2016 in Barcelona this year. We had a chance to swing by the Microsoft booth to check out a very early version of its flagship Windows 10 for phones device, the HP Elite X3. It’s quite a beauty, and Windows Phone fans should probably start drooling now.

You’re looking at a massive 5.9-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 820 processor, expandable storage, 3GB of RAM and more, all in a Windows Phone device. When it launches, perhaps sometime around April though HP hasn’t confirmed yet, it will probably be the most powerful Windows 10 smartphone on the market. Continuum is an obvious feature, though even the Snapdragon 820 processor doesn’t help with lag when you have multiple tabs open in the Microsoft Edge browser, which is a bummer.

Still, HP will offer a desk dock with the Elite X3, which should make it easy to quickly add a keyboard and mouse and fill in the rest of the Excel sheet you neglected at the office.

HP said that this is really early hardware and software, so things like an upcoming fingerprint reader aren’t even present yet. It’s a gorgeous phone, though, and you can take a closer look in the gallery above.
