Free DOOM and DOOM 2 classics with pre-order of DOOM on Xbox One, says leak

The Xbox One’s backwards compatibility has led to an obvious suggestion for pre-orderer bonuses. “If you pre-order this new game, we’ll happily give you an older one for free!” We’ve seen this deal pop up before, most noticeably with Fallout 4 landing players a copy of Fallout 3, and we’re about to score even more classic titles out of it!

Maybe. This is a leak, and it is to be treated as a rumor for now, but Xbox Live Australia has let slip an offer which states a pre-order of the new DOOM game will land buyers a free copy of the original DOOM and its sequel, DOOM 2. Both games are already playable on Xbox One thanks to backwards compatibility, but my guess is that not everyone owns them.

DOOM leak

Time to fix that! DOOM is a pioneering masterpiece that more than holds up in the face of games that spawned from its warpath. It lacks the grand scale (and vertical aiming) of the modern FPS scene, but it more than makes up for it with masterful level design. Each of DOOM’s classic stages are loaded with secret passages and weapons that are just ripe for the picking. I’m hoping that id Software’s upcoming reboot features levels that are half as timeless as this game.

If you have any interest in understanding the history of the FPS genre or gaming in general, there is no getting around it. You need to play this game.

I’m not as well versed in DOOM 2, so I can’t speak for it with any authority. However, it’s a free game, and that’s all you need to know.

Again, this is a leak, so we can’t say for certain if this is true. If it is, we can’t say if this will extend beyond the borders of Australia. DOOM launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 13.
